This keeps the battery charged and prevents bulbs from blowing, etc. This part is exposed to extreme temperatures and can often be damaged. If the rectifier/controller is faulty, the battery is constantly drained and, on some ignition systems, the ignition will no longer work, the bulbs will go out, or the light will flicker.
