Why use a special tool for inserting oil seals?
Correct installation of oil seals is essential to ensure engine performance and durability. The seals must be positioned perfectly straight and at the precise depth required for each application. Furthermore, the force applied during installation must be evenly distributed to prevent any deformation or structural damage to the seals. Without the proper tool, this task can become very complex.
That's where the STAGE6 tool comes in! It allows for hassle-free installation of oil seals on 50cc 2-stroke Minarelli scooter engines.
Design of the Stage6 oil seal installation tool
The tool is modular, which allows for savings if you want to use it for various applications and engines. The main body, bearing the Stage6 logo, is used with different adapters held in place by an O-ring. Each adapter is laser-marked to indicate its specific application, making it easy to choose the right one.
On the back of the main tool, you will find an orange anodized cap with the inscription "Hit me one more time," indicating the side to strike. This cap wears out over time due to mallet strikes, but it is available as a spare part.
Usage and tips for the Stage6 oil seal installation tool
For oil seal installation, we recommend not applying grease or oil to the outside of the seals (housing side), as this could prevent the seal from staying in place over time. Instead, apply grease to the inside of the seals to lubricate the contact area with the crankshaft shaft. In case of difficult installation, you can moisten the outside of the seal with a solvent such as gasoline.
For optimal installation, it is best to place the oil seal into its housing by hand first. If you are unable to install it completely using the insert, you can then use a mallet. Each adapter is equipped with a stop to drive the adapter to the correct depth.
Note: This Minarelli scooter version is equipped with an insert only for the variator side. To insert the ignition oil seal, you can use the tool without an insert, but be sure to measure the depth beforehand.
